If you’re a real follower of Saxion on social media and have been walking around Saxion these days, you might have seen some posters and flyers from the International Office: they are currently recruiting international students! If you’re not a real follower or haven’t been around much – well, that doesn’t matter.
This post is a standing ovation to my awesome team. And perhaps your moment to think about applying for a student job at the International Office!
Who would’ve thought that a bunch of random people I figured would only be my team for work purposes would grow so close to my heart? We met for the first time one afternoon in September for our job training and it clicked – subconsciously, we knew that this year would be a buzz.
To give you a brief idea of who we are and what we did in 2017/2018: we’re 8 students from various nationalities & study programs, forming the Marketing & Communication Support Team.
We share our experience as Saxion students at German high schools, student fairs, talk to visitors during Saxion Open Days about studying in the Netherlands… You can see us on social media, doing webinars, writing blogs, creating small videos about student life, answering your questions online… We’re a group of people that when you’d see us, you’d wonder what brought us together!
We also went through stressful times, for example, when we’d manage 5 events a week when we had exams and deadlines, and everyone was super busy. Despite that we’d keep our spirits high and have the most entertaining time.
I loved the car rides listening to loud music, telling high-school students our experiences at Saxion and in the Netherlands, and going to fairs all around Germany. Whether it was just a team meeting, an Open Day, a presentation or a fair, we always had a blast.
We even went partying together – one of our teammates had some pretty cool house parties – we’d go for drinks or dinner, and we’d have the most unforgettable times on weekends, after a hard working day at a fair… I let you imagine the stories that happened.
Sadly, most of us are leaving for our internship/minor, which brings this team to separate. So to round off our year with some last historic memories, we went on a boat trip to Leiden (Holland).
It was a very special day for everyone. We decorated the boat with garlands, prepared some festive, yummy picnic, and our team leaders were dressed up as pirates and sailors.
We had such awesome weather that after spending an entire day on the canals of Leiden, we ended up having hummer-red faces. What’s essential though is that it was a real riot, we laughed so much – I think I haven’t laughed like that in a long time.
So now I’m sitting here writing this blog and am thinking of that day, laughing by myself. And then I look at all the pictures ( that you can find on Facebook btw ) and dwell in nostalgia, thinking about the memories I made with colleagues who became treasured friends.
Believe me when I say that this is not to promote the job. Without a doubt this was part of my best experiences this school year. And it breaks my heart to know that this was it.
